Bargoed Youth travelled to West Wales to play Pembroke RFC looking to get into the Quarter Finals of the WRU Youth Plate after last week’s game had fallen foul of the weather.
In difficult conditions the Young Bulls overcame a strong challenge from the West Wales outfit and came away with a 16-7 victory.
Bargoed knew that they were in for a tough contest, and the early exchanges confirmed that with Pembroke leading 7-5 early on. However this group of players are gaining in confidence as the season develops, and they soon took the lead which they weren’t going to lose.
Bargoed had a couple of players unavailable but the depth in this squad continues to grow, and tries from Keaton Davies and Jack Price, along with two penalties from Rhys Thomas gave Bargoed a well deserved but hard fought victory.
They now look forward to the Quarter Final tie away against neighbours Nelson on the weekend of February 16th.
The Youth are also in the mix in the Dragons League and sit at the top of the table with Nelson RFC in second place. Both sides have the cup and league in their sights so the game on the 16th should be a cracker with two talented local sides going head to head in the cup match.
