There was no game for Bargoed Youth on the weekend, but the 1st XV and Warriors were both in action.
The 1st XV overcame a hard working Narberth outfit in the National Championship, and continue to challenge for the top spot.
Bargoed Warriors travelled to play Division 3 side Abersychan in a friendly.
They had a number of players unavailable but still managed to perform well, assisted by a couple of players from the youth team, and the Youth team coach Aeron Hughes who laced up his boots and played at 10 for the Warriors.
Bargoed managed a win against a competitive home side, with a 29-0 victory.
There were good performances from the three youth players, Jake Rees, Kieron Coulsen and Dominic Stegwell, and Gavin McDonald and Aaron Elliott were also prominent. However the two stand out performers were Ieuan Morgan and Luke Ellaway.
Bargoed’s points came from tries from Ian Jenkins, Gavin Mcdonald, Luke Ellaway and Ieuan Morgan, and points from the boot of Ellaway and Aeron Hughes.
It was great to see the return of Aaron Elliott who had played for Bargoed Youth and graduated to the Blues Academy, and then senior rugby with Bargoed before moving to Australia.
It’s good to see him back in a Bargoed shirt, and playing alongside his younger cousin, the promising Ieuan Morgan.
This week the 1st XV are away to Trebanos in the National Championship, and the Warriors are home to Rhiwbina in an important National Conference fixture The Youth are also at home against RTB Ebbw Vale in a Dragons League game. All games kick off at 2.30 pm.
